Kolya and Others / Dacha

A dacha is a country house in the former Soviet Union where families often spend weekends and holidays while living and working in the city throughout the rest of the year. While city life, including the modernisation and evolution of home interiors, has been greatly influenced by Western commercialism, consumption and aesthetics, the dacha can maintain a sense of humble beauty and timelessness through its clutter-free functionality and simplicity.

Whilst there is a longing in the images, Kisina is too young to be nostalgic. She is an image-maker embarking on her artistic journey, wide awake to her task and too driven to dwell on distances to lose sight of the road ahead. These photographs, which glow and pulsate, help plot the way.
