My Heart I Give to Children

Being a mum has brought a new, more patient quality to the way I approach photography: instead of chasing the future with more fast-paced commissions and projects, I’m finally doing something I couldn’t find the time for in years - savouring and rediscovering /making sense of/ the past by slowly going through my archive.

I just stumbled upon these images from my visit to this kindergarten in Ukraine 6 years ago - they have never been shown or published and have a special significance to me personally, now that Ukraine is in a war.

These images of course make me wonder what happened to the children and their carers, but also give me so much hope for the future of Ukraine, where I always kept seeing and documenting the examples of inner strengths and the desire to be and do good no matter the circumstances. Just like the staff of this kindergarten, who went out of their ways to provide what’s missing for the vulnerable children.

A selection of images from this series, My Heart I Give to Children, is in my gallery.
