“Even when I’m weak and I’m breaking

I’ll stand weeping at the train station

Cause I can see your faces.

There is so much peace to be found in people’s faces.”

- Kate Tempest

I was home alone and it was dark and cold outside. I was about 5 and lived with my grandparents in a tiny secret military town in Kamchatka, Far Eastern Russia, where they ran a school. The overwhelming and all-encompassing darkness with no one there was scaring me, so I picked a photo album with school class photos. I just looked at the faces, people’s faces, it didn’t matter that I didn’t know them. The fear evaporated...

My fear of darkness is gone but I still love looking at people’s faces. Now I’m just overwhelmed by their beauty, on the inside as well as the outside. Even when I’m doing someone’s headshots it feels like a privilege to look into another person. Just like Kate Tempest “I like people’s faces”
